The University Grants Commission has taken up a plan to link the country's universities through a common digital network, aiming to make sharing of research, library resources and teaching material easier.

If implemented, teachers and students could gain access to remote classes, digital journals and joint research.

Experts warn the benefits may stay limited unless connectivity quality, cyber security and a shortage of trained staff are addressed.
